Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp margarine
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp nutritional yeast (optional)
  • 2 tbsp white cooking wine

Instructions

  1. Heat the margarine over medium heat in a large skillet and sautee the onion for 2 minutes. Add the flour and garlic salt and sautee for 5 more minutes.
  2. Add the vegetable broth and cornstarch, stirring to mix the cornstarch well. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer, stirring frequently to make sure no clumps are formed.
  3. Add the nutritional yeast, soy sauce, and white wine and reduce heat. Cook for one more minute, stirring. Enjoy your vegetarian gravy! Use it to top off a homemade lentil loaf, mashed potatoes or for a vegetarian Thanksgiving.

Notes

Can sub 1 tbsp onion powder for 1 medium diced onion. If using diced onion, use immersion blender to smooth it out.
